Search & Filters
Finding the right expression in a hundred-plus-item corpus comes down to two tools working together: a weighted text search, and three filters that narrow the list further. Every active narrowing — search included — is restated above the list as something you can see and remove, so the list never looks smaller than expected for a reason you can't trace.
Weighted search
The search field in the toolbar runs a weighted, in-memory index. Matches score across title (highest weight), tags, description, and code (lowest), with bonuses for whole-word and phrase hits. A title match always outranks the same term merely appearing inside a code body. Typing is debounced so results don't thrash while you're still typing.
The Selected property filter
A toolbar chip labeled Selected property restricts the list to expressions authored for the kind of property you currently have selected in AE — only Rotation expressions when a Rotation property is targeted, for example. It's off by default: the Library is first a browsable corpus, and narrowing to your live target is one click away. With nothing selected in AE, the chip is inert.
Packs and tags
Click a pack or tag row directly in the left column to filter the list to it. A plain click replaces the active pack/tag selection (clicking the lone active value again clears it); ⇧/⌘-click adds it alongside what's already active.
Folder scope and breadcrumbs
Click a folder in the left-column tree to scope the list to it. The toolbar's breadcrumbs show the current scope and let you step back up without returning to the tree.
Clearing what you narrowed
Every active narrowing — the Selected property chip, each pack, each tag — is restated as a removable chip above the list, with a Clear all action once two or more are active.
These screenshots were captured in an earlier beta. Toolbar and Library layouts have since changed; the written instructions on this page describe v0.145.4. See A Tour of the Panel for the current controls.
The Selected property filter — and the Compact panel's matching Compatible toggle — check compatibility at the kind level only: whether an expression was authored for the kind of property you have selected. Neither one currently verifies that a specific layer or effect name a row's code references actually exists in your comp. If you need to know that ahead of time, Audition still gives you AE's own real verdict.
