v0.145.4Internal beta docs

Beta documentation · eXLib v0.145.4. Public release is pending.

Tabs & Hot Exit

A tab strip runs across the top of the editor, above the Monaco surface, so you can hold several expressions open side by side instead of losing your place every time you Pull or open something from the Library.

Several expressions at once

  • The + button at the end of the strip opens a new tab, up to 12 at once.
  • ⌃⌘← / ⌃⌘→ cycles between open tabs.
  • Default names are numbered — Expression 1, Expression 2, … — never "Untitled."

Naming and the rename lock

Right-click a tab and choose Rename to retitle it. A manual rename locks the title, so it stops following whatever property you pin to that tab (see Pinning an Apply Target). Renaming it back to an auto-shaped name — or re-committing the same auto name — unlocks it again.

Hover a tab to see what it's bound to: an unpinned tab reads "Applies to the AE selection"; a pinned tab states the full address, the same wording the status-bar pin chip uses.

Opening from the Library

Opening an expression from the Library sends it into a new tab, under the 12-tab cap, rather than overwriting whatever you were editing — under the library entry's own title.

Closing a tab

Closing a tab with any content — even a single character — raises an in-panel confirm dialog first. A genuinely empty tab closes with no prompt.

Hot exit — what survives a reload

Tabs restore across a panel reload. A restored tab is dimmed, and its tooltip notes "(restored from last session)" until you edit it or its target is re-verified — the code itself is trustworthy (it's exactly what you left), but the binding hasn't been re-checked against the currently open project yet.

These screenshots were captured in an earlier beta. Toolbar and Library layouts have since changed; the written instructions on this page describe v0.145.4. See A Tour of the Panel for the current controls.

Four tabs, four states: renamed and locked, following a pin, auto-numbered, and restored from the last session.

Hot exit isn't limited to editor tabs — it's a design position that runs through the panel's other authoring surfaces too:

  • The Author view restores which working draft you had open, plus unsaved code, wiring, and field edits. A new scratch draft becomes a store-backed Library item when you Save it; a draft opened from an existing item stays attached to that item.
  • Pseudo Effect Authoring restores the whole in-flight rig — its structure, its pull provenance, its remap baseline — labeled "· restored," with New available to discard it and start over from a blank draft.

[!NOTE] Hot exit preserves the working state of a new draft before its first Save. It is not a published or store-backed Library item until Save succeeds.
