Install & First Launch
eXLib is a CEP (Common Extensibility Platform) extension for After Effects. Installing it is a one-time step; opening it afterward is a menu click every session.
Installing the extension
Once installed, eXLib appears in After Effects' Window → Extensions menu.
If your build was delivered as a signed extension package, install it the way your team distributes CEP extensions — for example, via a .zxp installer, or by placing the extension in the CEP extensions folder. After installing, restart After Effects so it picks up the new extension.
Opening the panel
- Launch After Effects.
- Open Window → Extensions → eXLib.
- The panel opens.
Docking it where it helps
Dock the panel wherever suits your workflow — many users park it beside the Timeline so they can watch their selection and their code at the same time.
The panel works docked narrow as a side column, or wide as a bottom drawer.
Next: install the native companion
The panel isn't fully set up yet. eXLib's launch gate checks for a required native companion, and the install isn't finished without it — see The Native Companion for why it exists and how to install it.
